WBD has acquired the firm, one of St Petersburg’s most modern and best equipped dairy plants, in line with its strategy of regional expansion. Built in 1987, the plant has a milk processing capacity of 500 tons per day (current capacity utilised is 40 tons), and presently employs about 350 people. The company plans to triple the factory’s output by installing new and upgrading existing equipment.

Sergei Plastinin, CEO of WBD, said: “Through this major acquisition in St Petersburg, we have now established substantial dairy production capacity in the North West region of Russia, one of the most strategically important regions in the whole of the country.

“Our products are already well known to people in the region. And it is this high demand for, and ever growing loyalty to, our products that encouraged us to make substantial investments in developing a full-scale production capability in St Petersburg. We already have a wholly owned affiliate in St Petersburg, the Nevsky Dairy Trading House, and a market share of over 4%. We intend to further develop our presence in this key market, both in terms of production and in terms of sales.”

Roska St Petersburg Dairy Company OJSC presently manufactures a wide range of dairy products, including pasteurised milk, sour cream, kefir, yogurts, ryazhenka, butter, cottage cheese, quarks and condensed milk. All products are currently manufactured under two brands, Roska and Kolibri. WBD intends to use the factory to manufacture its nationally known branded dairy products.
