X5 Retail Group, the Russian retailer, has promoted Mikhail Kuprish to the role of chief development director.

Kuprish, currently X5’s vice president of small format development, will take his new role on 30 June and replace Andrei Rybakov, who is leaving for personal reasons.

Rybakov has worked at X5 – and Perekrestok, one of the company’s predecessor chains – in 1995.

X5 was formed in 2006 after the merger of soft discounter Pyaterochka and supermarket chain Perekrestok.
