Confectionery giant Ferrero is considering producing Tic Tac mints in South Africa as it ups investment in the country.

Ferrero is embarking on a round of investment in South Africa at its plant in Walkerville, south of Johannesburg.

The company plans to source more raw materials for the plant, which produces its Kinder Joy brand. However, it could also soon produce Tic Tac at the facility.

“There are plans to produce locally also Tic Tac,” the company told just-food.

Ferrero said the investment would look to improve the current production processes at the site. “The main focus, at present, is not so much on increasing production capacity but rather on improving the production process by utilising local inputs, as well as locally manufactured semi-finished products, in every step of the production cycle,” it explained.

The plant, which started production in 2009, employs 300 workers. The investment could add around 50 more jobs at the facility.
