Following speculation that Carrefour plans to sell its Korean unit, rumours have been flying about who the possible buyers might be, but those involved are remaining tight-lipped concerning the future of the French retail chain’s outlets in South Korea.

Earlier this month, Carrefour was reported to be in negotiations with a potential buyer for ten of its 32 Korean outlets, sparking speculation that the company was planning to withdraw altogether from this market. When approached by just-food, Carrefour was unwilling to corroborate this and declined to comment on which companies might be considered potential bidders.

According to various media reports, Carrefour Korea is in discussions with Wal-Mart Korea, Samsung Tesco and Lotte Mart. However, none of the companies involved are willing to validate the rumours of negotiations or even confirm interest in the sale.
