Sargento Foods, the US cheese maker, is planning an expansion of its facility in Hilbert, Wisconsin.

The plant will see 60,000 square feet added to a site and the move is expected to add 140 jobs. The factory employs 135 people.

The plant produces cheese and cheese sauces for the retail and foodservice sectors. A spokesperson would not disclose details on the investment value or how much capacity would increase by.

CEO Louie Gentine said: "Sargento remains steadfast in our commitment to growing in Wisconsin. We look forward to increasing our facilities in Hilbert to add production capacity."

Construction will begin during the fourth quarter of with occupancy expected by late 2016.

Sargento also operates production facilities in Plymouth and Kiel in Wisconsin. It also has a technical centre in Elkhart Lake. The plant in Kiel and the technical centre in Elkhart Lake are also being expanded under work that began earlier this year.
