US frozen food manufacturer Schwan’s has expanded its presence in the pizza market with the acquisition of Better Baked Foods and Drayton Foods from NE Foods.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Better Baked Foods, based in Pennsylvania, produces pizza, French bread pizza and sandwich items for private label and foodservice customers, with brands including Better Baked Classics, Daybreak Classics, Papa Presto and Zap-A-Snack.

North Dakota-based Drayton Foods manufactures dough balls, pizza crusts, breadsticks and bread rolls for its food industry customers as well as its Two Sicily’s brands in the retail sector.

This represents Schwan’s second acquisition in as many months, as it snapped up Ohio-based MaMa Rosa’s Pizza last month (June).

“We are focused on adding to our capabilities and growing our share of the US Pizza market,” said Schwan’s CEO Dimitro Smyrnios. “The addition of Better Baked, Drayton and Mama Rosa’s to Schwan’s will deepen our collaboration with strategic food service and retail customers on innovating and growing the pizza category and meeting consumer demand.”
