Belgian retailer Delhaize has told just-food it is to build a distribution centre in Serbia as part of its plans to expand in the country.

A spokesperson for the group said today (19 April) the distribution centre will “ensure [Delhaize] can grow further”.

He could not give details on the size of the facility or the amount that Delhaize is investing in the project.

“We need the distribution centre to support our growth. On the location, there are a few options but no decision has been made yet, communications are ongoing.”

The spokesperson said the facility is likely to open next year.

Delhaize currently operates four distribution centres and 370 stores in Serbia under the Maxi and Tempo banners.
