SLOVAKIA: The price of bread in rising, but the government will not subsidise costs
The agricultural ministry has admitted that it has no plans to subsidise the price increases on bread, despite the fact that they are predicted to rise by around 20%, according to the Slovak Agriculture and Food Chamber. The price of bread in the east of the country has already increased by between 2% and 5%.

The situation has been caused by a shortage if wheat in the country. Currently resting at between 5,000-5,800 korunas per tonnes, mills in Moldova and Bodvu expect the wholesale cost of this commodity to reach 6,500-7,000 korunas a tonne.
