The agricultural ministry has admitted that it has no plans to subsidise the price increases on bread, despite the fact that they are predicted to rise by around 20%, according to the Slovak Agriculture and Food Chamber.

The price of bread in the east of the country has already increased by between 2% and 5%.

The situation has been caused by a shortage if wheat in the country. Currently resting at between 5,000-5,800 korunas per tonnes, mills in Moldova and Bodvu expect the wholesale cost of this commodity to reach 6,500-7,000 korunas a tonne.
