French retail giant Carrefour has reportedly joined forces with Spanish supermarket group El Arbol to launch a joint bid for regional Spanish retailer Caprabo.
When contacted by just-food today (29 May) Carrefour declined to comment on the rumours surrounding the sale of Caparbo. However, the group did emphasise its commitment to fostering growth in the Spanish market.
“Spain is an important European market for us and we are always looking for new ways to improve our business there,” a spokesperson for Carrefour said.
According to reports, Carrefour and El Arbol are among five companies looking to acquire the Catalan-based supermarket group. Other interested parties are believed to be Auchan, Eroski and Dino Sol.
