French dairy group Lactalis has acquired Spanish cheese maker Forlasa for an undisclosed sum.
With a turnover of EUR130m (US$181.5m), Forlasa’s portfolio of brands includes El Ventero, Gran Capitán or Don Bernardo.
The company operates one manufacturing facility in Villarobledo, where it employs 329 people.
Lactailis currently runs seven production sites in Spain, where its sales reached EUR600m last year.
“The acquisition of Forlasa strengthens Lactalis in the Spanish market,” the company said.
Lactalis added that it expected Forlasa’s brands to benefit from increased access to export markets, as the French group has operations in over 160 countries.
