Spanish chocolate and natraceuticals firm Natra has committed to sourcing 100% certified cocoa by 2020.

The chocolate manufacturer said it will promote certification among the cocoa farmer co-operatives with which Natra has relationships, and participate in non-profit organisations that promote the protection of farmers and their families.

Natra said it will also acquire 100% of the palm oil from plantations which are “compatible with the survival of tropical forests” in order to promote the “rational use of natural resources”, with an emphasis on reducing energy and water consumption.

The company, which supplies retailers in Europe and the US and has just opened an office in Hong Kong, also made a series of pledges on nutrition.

It said it will “focus” on the elimination of trans fats, replace artificial aromas with 100% natural aromas, lower salt and avoid artificial colourants.
