Spanish dairy company Ebro Puleva has launched Puleva Max Defensas, a children’s yoghurt made from breast milk. It claims it is the world’s first such product.

The yoghurt includes five patented microorganisms derived from womens’ breast milk, which, Puleva said, matches its immunological, diarrhoea and allergy-prevention benefits.

Puleva’s functional-foods unit Puleva Biotech developed the product and is negotiating its sale with other food companies worldwide, a company spokeswoman confirmed.

Puleva also plans to launch adult dairy products based on the technology.

Max Defensas is now available across Spain. It comes in 90-gram bottles featuring plain and strawberry flavours, the spokeswoman said.
