Madrid-Spanish dairy group Ebro Puleva has no plans to sell its milkshake factory in Leon, northern Spain, a company spokeswoman told just-food today (July 10).

Her comments came as the factory’s 115 workers gathered to protest the company-s “hiding” of negotiations to sell the plant to rival Leches Rio.


Puleva and Leches Rio executives met last week to negotiate the sale, trades union said, criticising the company for concealing the talks and failing to fulfill its promise to incorporate a second production line at the plant.


The spokeswoman reiterated that the factory “is not for sale.”


Rather, Puleva is looking for alternatives to increase its viability after Nestlé cancelled a key contract to produce chocolate milkshakes at the site, she explained. The Leon factory makes dairy products for Puleva and third-party brands, the spokeswoman added.
