Detailed rules have been announced in Sweden for a groundbreaking eco-labelling project that highlights food producers that cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 25%.
Criteria for cereal, vegetable, dairy and fish products have now been launched and standards for other product groups are due for release in October.
A note from the ‘Climate Labelling for Food’ project said: “The purpose is to create a labelling system, which will…give consumers a chance to make a conscious climate choice…”
Promoters include Swedish organic standards developer KRAV supported by food producers Milko, Lantmännen, LRF, Skånemejerier, Scan, and others.
