SWEDEN: Suspected BSE case unlikely; Sweden still BSE-free?
The suspected BSE case reported at a farm at Sudermanie, south west of Stockholm, last month is now believed to have been a false alarm. The definitive test results are still to arrive from the suspected case, but Swedish agriculture ministry officials have revealed that that initial tests showed that the disease was not actually BSE. The farm in question is still under quarantine for the time being however.

If the tests prove that mad cow disease is not present, Sweden will remain the only country in the EU to have so far escaped the spread of BSE.
