Wal-Mart has remained silent on rumours that the retail giant is planning to open an outlet in northern Sweden.
According to Swedish publication Dagens Handel, city officials have indicated that Wal-Mart is in talks with an eye to opening an outlet in Sundsvall.
“Wal-Mart is interested in establishing a test-store in northern Europe, and if they do it will be Sundvall’s Östra Birsta shopping area,” Gerhard Larsson, a former governor of Västernorrlan, told the newspaper.
City officials were unavailable for comment when contacted by just-food.
Meanwhile, Wal-Mart declined to either confirm or deny the report. A spokesperson for the company told just-food that the world’s largest retailer is “always looking for expansion opportunities” but declined to comment specifically on the northern European market.
