Swiss food group Huegli Holding is to buy Italian firm ALI-BIG Industria Alimentare for an undisclosed sum.

Huegli, which produces a range of food, from organic to private-label, is looking to boost its presence in Italy’s foodservice sector, CFO Andreas Seibold told just-food.

“We will also enter into new technologies, liquid technologies like sauces and soups, which we didn’t have until now – dry blends was our competence,” Seibold said this morning (27 June).

Some 40% of Huegli’s business is in the foodservice sector in Europe, with the bulk made up of natural and organic foods, the production of industrial foods for industry players and private-label lines for discount retailers.

Huegli already has a small presence in Italy but the acquisition of ALI-BIG would increase its market share, Seibold said.
