Swiss dairy group Emmi has posted a 17.2% rise in net profit for the first half of the year, driven by sales gains at home and overseas.

Net profit climbed to CHF26.6m (US$23.89m). Sales rose 7.5% to CHF1.3bn, the group announced today (19 September). International sales rose 7.1% and Swiss sales were up 7.7%.

While Emmi forecast “substantial growth” in the second half, the company remained cautious and warned that “a slowdown in international business is foreseeable”.

The group predicted sales growth of 6-8% and net profit margin of over 2% for the full year.

“Thanks to strong growth and a significantly better operating result, Emmi got back on track in the first half of 2008. A systematic market focus and strict cost management were major contributing factors in this regard,” Emmi said in a statement.
