Lidl, the German discount giant, today (19 February) announced plans to enter Switzerland next month with the opening of 13 stores.

The retailer said the outlets would be located in seven cantons throughout the European country, including Lucerne and Zurich.

Reto Ruch, purchasing manager at Lidl Switzerland, said Lidl would stock Swiss and foreign brands at its stores.

“We know what our customers expect from us and [we will] take into account the special demands of Swiss quality,” Ruch said.

Officials at Lidl Switzerland could not be reached for immediate comment.
