Swiss dairy group Emmi has reached a deal to take full ownership of US cheese specialist Roth Käse USA.
The move builds upon Emmi’s strategic partnership with Roth Käse, in which it already holds a minority stake, the company revealed today (8 January).
“By taking total ownership of Roth Käse we are improving our position in the US market, where we are well-placed for growth,” a spokesperson for the company told just-food.
Emmi said that it plans to reinforce its market position as a producer of Swiss cheese internationally, focusing on the Italian, German and US markets in particular.
Roth, which booked sales of around US$90m in the previous fiscal year, produces speciality cheeses.

For Emmi, the acquisition of the US cheese specialist is “a logical step in our strategy and creates a solid foundation for expanding our food service segment”, CEO Urs Riedener explained
The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
