Migros aims to grow its organic sales by accelerating store openings under its Alnatura-Migros organic banner and offering Alnatura own label products in conventional supermarkets.

The Swiss co-operative retailer grew organic sales by 9% year-on-year in 2012 and the company hopes to increase the pace of sales expansion by investing in the Alnatura organic brand.

“Migros wants to grow in the organic sector, on the one hand, with Alnatura organic supermarkets and, on the other hand, with the inclusion of articles in the brand Alnatura in Migros supermarkets,” a spokesperson for the group told just-food.

Migros “sees potential” to operate 30 Alnatura stores in Switzerland, the spokesperson added.

The company opened its first trial organic supermarket in August 2012 in partnership with German organic retailer Alnatura.
