Ajinomoto Sales, the Thai subsidiary of Japanese Ajinomoto Co, published a confident statement revealing that the company expects to be affected only positively by problems at its sister Indonesian unit.


In Thailand, different raw materials are used to those in Indonesia, and a company spokeswoman revealed that the products manufactured are completely “halal,” or “allowed” for Muslims unable to eat pork due to religious beliefs. “We believe that [the crisis] will not affect sales in Thailand,” she said.


It might even gain export orders previous fulfilled at the factory in Indonesia if it is forced to cease production, but this is reliant on the decision of the parent company.
