TreeHouse Foods has announced it will hire another 140 permanent employees from ConAgra Foods as part of the deal for the latter’s private-label food business.

The move will double the amount TreeHouse planned to take on at the ConAgra site in Omaha. Overall, the takeover of the ConAgra business will see 9,500 employees, including more than 280 Omaha-based employees, move to TreeHouse when the deal closes in the first quarter.

“TreeHouse is committed to retaining skilled employees familiar with the private-label food business who will aid in facilitating a smooth integration of the combined company,” it said.

The company added it would open a new facility in Omaha later this year to support ConAgra’s private-label customers. The new office will include a customer service, finance, IT and R&D and supply chain functions.

“This will mark TreeHouse’s first office location in Omaha and will allow us to have all of our new Omaha-based employees together in one building. We recognise that customer service and business infrastructure are critical to serve existing customers and to drive the success of the business,” said Sam Reed, chairman and CEO of TreeHouse.

“Our transformational acquisition will establish an industry leader in customer brands and custom products with significant scale, scope and skill and will enable us to extend our reach in the grocery store by over 10 shelf stable and refrigerated food categories.
