Trident Seafoods has signed a letter of intent to Western Alaska Fisheries from Maruha-Nichiro owned Westward Seafoods.

Western Alaska Fisheries’ assets include a processing plant in Kodiak, which is located half a mile from Trident’s existing processing facility in the town. These plants both process pollock, cod and salmon harvested from “sustainably managed” fisheries off Alaska, Trident said.

Trident CEO Joe Bundrant said: “We’re excited to be able to expand our presence in Kodiak. I was born in Kodiak and have a vested interest in Trident’s ongoing commitment to Alaska’s sustainable fisheries and the community of Kodiak.”

The deal is expected to be finalised by the end of December. Financial details were not disclosed.
