Turkish dairy group Atesoglu Yogurt has told just-food that it wants to remain independent, amid reports linking French giant Lactalis to the company.

Reports in Turkey have claimed that Lactalis has held talks with Atesoglu over a possible acquisition of the company.

However, Suleyman Nergiz, business development manager at Atesoglu, said the company is not interested in selling up.

“We are a very old company, we don’t want to sell,” Nergiz told just-food. “We have good customers in Turkey, they love us and they love the quality of our products. We could be interested in a partnership for the Turkish dairy market.”

Nergiz said Atesoglu had held talks with Lactalis in recent months but was unaware of any future imminent discussions.
