Retail Arabia, the Dubai-based firm that operates the Géant banner under license from France’s Casino, has confirmed plans to expand the chain’s footprint in the United Arab Emirates. 

Géant was launched in the UAE in March 2005 with the opening of the first hypermarket in the Ibn Battuta Mall in Dubai.

Retail Arabia now operates hypermarkets under the Géant banner and smaller-sized outlets under the Géant Easy banner. The mall operator plans to open 35 stores in the market over the next two years, a spokesperson confirmed today (22 March). 

“These will be both hypermarkets and smaller stores, wherever we see opportunity to expand,” the spokesperson said. 

In addition to Géant, Retail Arabia operates LastChance and La Marche supermarkets in the region.
