UK food manufacturer 2 Sisters Food Group is to cut jobs at its RF Brookes facility in Leicestershire.

The cuts at the South Wigston facility, confirmed today (15 May), will be the second wave of job losses at the own-label plant in less than a year. Previous owner Premier Foods plc made 200 workers redundant in June after losing a contract to supply pies to Marks and Spencer. 2 Sisters purchased the RF Brookes business from Premier in December.

A spokesperson for 2 Sisters told just-food the redundancies are “regrettable but necessary” following a review of demand for the company’s products over the forthcoming months and the business lost during 2011.

“We are working hard to improve a loss making site but regrettably are proposing the 193 redundancies to sustain the rest of the jobs at the site,” the spokesperson said.

“Whilst regrettable, the business is proposing these measures to try to ensure ongoing sustainability at Leicester and improve job security for the remaining workforce.”

2 Sisters will consult with workers on the cuts and insisted it will “continue to seek new business to replace the loss of business last year”.
