2 Sisters Food Group is in talks with union officials over changes to contracts at the UK food group’s ready meals production facility in Carlisle.

The union, Usdaw, and 2 Sisters have entered negotiations over changes 2 Sisters hopes to make to its terms and conditions in staff contracts.

While the union backed 2 Sisters’ original proposals, the 800 full-time staff at the facility voted them down.

The union has returned to the negotiating table in the hope of agreeing a compromise deal, a spokesperson confirmed today (9 July).

A spokesperson for 2 Sisters told just-food that changes to the terms and conditions at the facility were needed to ensure the site remained competitive.

“We operate in a highly competitive environment and as a major supplier to all of the UK’s leading retailers, we continually need to ensure that we deliver the highest quality at the lowest cost. A number of ready meal sites have closed in recent years and we need to ensure Carlisle can remain a viable site and we will continue to work with the trade unions to discuss these proposals.”
