UK supermarket chain Asda, a subsidiary of US retail titan Wal-Mart, has announced that it is on target to double the size of its home shopping service by the end of the year.

In 2004 around 30% of British homes had access to Asda’s online service, (www.asda.com); this is set to increase to 60% by September 2005. Asda said its online range has doubled in size and customers can now choose from 20,000 lines across food and non-food.


In recent months the company has invested more than £7m (US$12.7m) in its home delivery service, opening up an additional 7,000 delivery slots and adding 21 new stores to its service, taking the total delivering to 53. By September 2005 Asda will have opened another 21 store delivery services increasing its reach to 60% of homes in Britain.
