UK retailer Asda has appointed Charles Redfield to the position of chief merchandising officer.

Redfield joins the firm from his role of senior vice president for food & beverage at Sam’s Club in the US.

He will relocate to Yorkshire with his family and begin work as CMO in September, Asda said today (23 August).

“Our two longer-term aspirations to be the leader in non-food and a clear number two in food require us to take advantage of the global sourcing opportunities that being part of Walmart brings us,” CEO Andy Clarke said in an internal announcement. “I’m looking to Charles to lead these efforts and make a real and lasting strategic impact here in Asda.”
