UK supermarket chain Asda has announced plans to erect giant television screens and special terraces in three of its stores, in a bid to capture sales from football lovers.

The move will enable fans to follow England’s progress through its first three World Cup games against Sweden, Argentina and Nigeria, two of which are being screened in the UK early in the morning. Customers can enter for free, and they will be supplied with coffee and cereal in the car parks of stores in Dewsbury, Gateshead and Bristol Patchway.

Marketing director Richard Hodgson said that the move will offer the public an alternative to watching the games in the pub, and promised in homage to the England football team’s manager that there will be a “Sven-sational atmosphere”.
