Asda has launched a consultation with consumers over plans to expand its range of free-from foods.

The company is launching a line of free-from foods in 30 stores this month, including products such as gluten free pizzas and sausage rolls.

However, a spokesperson told just-food, the supermarket chain plans to introduce an expanded range – including a “much wider choice” – to its UK stores in June.

Asda has asked consumers for feedback on what free-from foods they would like to see in store via its website, your.asda.com. This information will determine what products the company will include in its free from line, the spokesperson said.

“We don’t really have an exact idea of how we are going to expand the range. That is the idea of putting it out to consumers and asking them to shape our range,” the spokesperson said.

“We are doing this online on the back of [former CEO] Andy Bond’s talk on democratic consumerism and getting customers involved in the process of getting products from farm and into stores and how they can decide what is being sold.”
