Asda is launching restaurant-run curry counters in stores following a successful pilot scheme.
The first concession, run by Bradford-based restaurant Zouk and launched in Asda’s Small Heath store in Birmingham in April, has already “trebled sales,” Asda said.
Now the Zouk-run counters have been introduced to the retail giant’s stores in Small Heath, Perry Bar, Cape Hill and Oadby, with dozens more planned, including several in London which will launch next year.
“Launching a series of restaurant-managed curry counters into our stores and giving local businesses the opportunity to expand, is a natural step for us,” said Asda ethnic buyer, Noor Ali.
“Our customers love the authenticity and quality of the range at Zouk and with more and more families on a budget, but not wanting to sacrifice eating out, launching this new concept is a winner,” Ali added.
The menu includes starters such as Punjabi Lollipop and mains including Lamb Nihari and the Goan Fish Curry.
