UK supermarket chain operator Asda today [Monday] welcomed the first customers at Scotland’s largest supermarket.

The group, which is now a subsidiary operation of US retail behemoth Wal-Mart, has invested £25m (US$38.4m) in the 100,000ft² (9,290m²) supercentre in Livingston, southeast Scotland. Over 500 new jobs have been created, reported Reuters.

The store is the flagship component of Asda’s plan to spend £75m upgrading its stores in Scotland over the next twelve months. Asda’s two Edinburgh stores are in line for major upgrading, while 14 other stores will also be given a makeover.
