US retail giant Wal-Mart has said that its UK supermarket chain Asda recorded a low double-digit rise in same-store sales, excluding petrol, in the fourth quarter.

Including petrol sales, Asda’s same-store sales rose in high single digits in percentage terms.

Asda said the number of customers visiting its stores increased by 800,000 over the year, totalling 9.4 million customers a week.

Asda’s food sales increased in the high single digits, with fresh food performing particularly well, reported Dow Jones International News.
