Asda told just-food today (24 May) that the sale of out-of-date food products at two stores in south Wales was the consequence of mistakes made at a local level.

The retailer, the UK unit of Wal-Mart, has been fined nearly GBP80,000 (US$158,817) for selling food that had passed its use-by date to undercover Trading Standards officers.
Trading Standards bought 59 items that had passed their best-before dates at two stores in Newport and Cwmbran.
“We’re obviously disappointed that at a local level two stores did not properly implement our very thorough date code checking system,” a spokesperson for the company said. “It was an oversight by the colleagues locally who have all since been retrained and rebriefed.”
The company added: “We would like to apologise to all our customers who shop in those stores – and reassure them that everyone is determined it doesn’t happen again.”
