BFG said Clarke’s appointment follows a search conducted by an external specialist agency covering a wide range of potential candidates. His experience of food retailing, especially that coming from roles at William Morrison and Asda, together with his most recent position as group retail director of Matalan, will ensure the continued development of the Iceland business, the company said.

As a consequence Mike Coupe will resign from the board with effect from 28 May 2004, BFG said.
