The British Potato Council (BPC) has developed a range of resources designed to help retailers make the most out of their potato offering
With the overall aim of increasing sales, and reducing wastage, the potato training scheme will see retail staff being given basic advice on handling and displaying the vegetables.
They will also be told enough information to competently answer questions posed by consumers on issues like nutritional value, cooking tips and storage hints.
Victoria Branch from the BPC told the Western Mail newspaper: “The presentation is very flexible and specific supermarket data can be included if required.
“Several potato packers have successfully been using these resources as part of their own liaison programmes for some time.”
The scheme will be being tested in 20 Tesco outlets, before being rolled out to other retailers in the country.
