The food manufacturing and retail sectors in the UK share the concern over the recent findings showing that acrylamide is present in a range of foodstuffs, according to a jointly issued communique by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and the Food and Drink Federation (FDF).


The two organisations have welcomes the WHO plan to establish a network for research on acrylamide to achieve a better understanding of human exposure and its possible healtheffects. Acrylamide is thought to be potentially carcinogenic.


The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has advised consumers that they do not need to change their diet or cooking methods.
