Cadbury Schweppes, the world’s biggest confectioner, wants to build on the strong growth of Green & Black’s and increase its share of the premium market, the company confirmed today (22 February).

Following its acquisition of Green & Black’s last year, sales of the organic chocolate, which uses cocoa grown by Maya Indian farmers in Belize, grew by 49%.

The premium push comes in response to UK sales growth that lagged behind the rest of the company’s portfolio for the 2005 financial year.  According to the company’s 2005 results, published yesterday (21 February), UK sales grew by 2%, whereas Cadbury’s Americas division reported growth of 10%.
