GM sceptics have issued calls for a five-year moratorium on genetically modified foods with a new campaign called “Five Year Freeze.” The protestors have called on the National Seed List Hearings not to approve the use of a particular type of maize for use by UK farmers. The variety is called Chardon LL and is produced by Aventis.

The campaign has the backing of Iceland supermarket, which was the first UK supermarket group to embrace the anti-GM movement, as well as the support of the Body Shop, the trade union Unison and more than 110 national organisations.
