Campbell Soup Co.-owned baby food firm Plum PBC is withdrawing from the UK market.
A spokesperson for Plum PBC said the company planned to “complete operations by the end of the summer through a carefully-planned and managed scale-back programme designed to minimise impact on its customers”.
In January last year UK firm Plum Baby merged with US peer Plum Organic – becoming Plum PBC – a premium baby food manufacturer. Four months later, Campbell swooped to buy Plum PBC.
just-food understands that, as the parent company, Campbell “was involved in the strategic review of the business” but the decision regarding the closure of the UK operation was made by Plum PBC.
“While Plum UK has faced some challenges, it has also recently made progress but not at the speed or scale necessary to support a long-term, sustainable business,” the spokesperson said.
