Challenger Foods, a UK poultry and meat supplier to food manufacturers, has introduced a range of salt-free chicken and meat products.
Only the natural sodium levels of the raw material are present in the new range, the company said. In the production, salt has been replaced with a clean-tasting potassium lactate which provides “an identical but salt-free product”, the company added.
All the salt in marinades has also been replaced, enabling the company to offer its full existing range of around 40 different styles in the salt-free version. These include Smokey Barbecue, Chinese, Piri-Piri, Cajun, Lemon & Tarragon, Lime & Ginger, Tandoori, Satay and Moroccan. Turkey, duck, game and lamb are also available in the salt-free format.
The range also comes in well ahead of Food Standards Agency healthy eating guidelines, not due for implementation until 2010, the company pointed out.
