Speciality cheese importer Futura Foods has sold a major stake in its business to Danish dairy firm Nordex Food.
Futura said the partnership with Nordex “opens the doors for many new opportunities to further develop the Mediterranean and white cheese category”. It is understood Nordex has purchased a 44% share.
Denmark-based Nordex specialises in the production of white cheeses from three sites in Denmark, Austria and Romania. Futura supplies to UK supermarkets, with a focus on Greek, Cypriot, Italian, Spanish and Northern European cheeses.
John Svensson, Futura Foods’ founder and director, said: “The strategic decision to partner with Nordex … strengthens Futura, as it has now become a production company for the first time since it was established in 2001.
“Nordex Food is the leading producer and supplier of value-added white cheeses in northern Europe whereas Futura Foods have built its role as the leading equivalent in the UK. Over the next few months Futura will be introducing the existing range of products produced by Nordex Food to supplement and complement the wide range already in the market.”
Futura and Nordex have appointed Kenneth Axen, previously Nordex export manager, as managing director. He replaces Neil Burchell, who will leave Futura with immediate effect.
