Classical swine fever has been confirmed this afternoon on two further premises, one in Essex and one in Norfolk.

The Norfolk holding is a pig breeding unit which had supplied pigs during the past month to the unit in Suffolk where CSF was confirmed yesterday and to the unit in Essex on which CSF has been confirmed today.

Protection zones of 3km have been placed around all three infected premises in which any movement of pigs is prohibited. Wider surveillance areas have also been established in which all farms holding pigs will be inspected and kept under surveillance. Known keepers of pigs in the three areas will be written to individually.

The MAFF epidemiological unit is in the process of tracing any other units which may have been supplied by this same unit.
