McGettigan, who is currently chairman of Musgrave UK and chief executive of its Londis food division, played an important role in Musgrave’s acquisition of Londis, reported the Financial Times.
At the Co-op McGettigan will be in charge of around 1,700 stores; it is hoped he will be able to improve profits at the food retail division.
