The UK’s Competition Commission has amended the timetable for its ongoing inquiry of the domestic grocery sector.

The commission said that its Emerging Thinking Document, due this month, would instead be published in January.

A spokesperson for the CC told just-food: “Even after this bit of slippage, we are still six or seven months ahead of schedule.”

There will also be subsequent one-month backlogs for the provisional finding report and the final report, which is now due in November 2007.

“As you’ll know we have received a huge response to this inquiry and obviously Christmas/New Year means that publishing towards the end of the month would not be desirable. As we said at the start, we’ve quite deliberately set a challenging schedule for this inquiry and this revised timetable would still see us finish well in advance of the statutory deadline,” the commission said.
