UK catering giant Compass Group has secured a £150m (US$215.5m) deal to introduce some of its major brands into 20 BBC sites over the next six months, and permanently banish the jokes about the state of BBC canteens.

BBC sites in London and Scotland will soon offer employees a choice of sandwich bars Upper Crust, Caffe Ritazza, Ixxy’s Bagels and Tastte! (correct spelling) from which to “grab and go” with their lunch. Some of the chains will be open 24 hours a day.

Compass CEO Michael Bailey told the Daily Star: “This should transform the service experienced by the BBC’s staff.”

The Compass deal will last ten years.
