Swizzels Matlow, the UK sweet maker behind brands such Love Hearts, Drumstick and Parma Violets, is to build a new manufacturing facility in its home market.

The firm, based in Derbyshire in the English Midlands, has signed a contract for the building of a new 158,000 sq ft facility in Middlewich, Cheshire in north-west England which, according to the contractor Tritax Symmetry, involves “significant additional investment” in new manufacturing plant and machinery. Swizzels Matlow presently manufactures at its base in New Mills, Derbyshire.

Jeremy Dee, managing director at Swizzels Matlow said: “We are excited to embark upon this development to further support the growth of our business. We look forward to working with Tritax Symmetry at Ma6nitude in the delivery of what we are confident will be a first-rate manufacturing facility.

Swizzels Matlow can lay claim to being one of the world’s oldest sweet manufacturers. It can trace its roots back to 1928 when Alfred and Maurice Matlow started making jelly sweets at a small factory in London.
